Swan Creek Greenway

Intro:

The Swan Creek Greenway is a 2.3 mile trail located in Athens Alabama. The Swan Creek Greenway will take you on a scenic walk along side a paved/gravel trail. It is a great trail for kids and pets as well.

Trail Head:

There are three areas to access the trail. One parking area is located near Lowes Home Improvement Just off Hwy 72. Another Parking area is the Swan Creek Park parking lot beside Athens High School and the other is just off Hwy 31 at the Athens Sportsplex.

To access the trail head: Each trail access point is easy to locate

Difficulty:

The trail is mostly paved and gravel and really flat so it is an easy walk.

Hiking the Trail:

Starting from the Hwy 72 trail head, you will walk about 1.5 miles or so before reaching Swan Creek Park and Athens High School. You will reach a point where the trail goes right or left when you get to the Archery Range. From here you turn right. You will then walk behind the baseball field at Athens High School and there you will turn to the trail to your right. Here you will see a long wooden foot bridge. Just walk across it and this will take you to wooden covered bridge and then to the end at the sportsplex parking area. Walking from the Hwy 72 parking area to the Hwy 31 sportsplex is 2.3 miles.

Scenery:

You will get great views of Swan Creek and also get to walk across a covered bridge.

Trail Maintenance:

The trail is mostly paved or gravel and in great shape.

Facilities:

There are restrooms, a picnic area, and playground located at the Swan Creek Park area. There are restrooms at the Athens Sportsplex.
